Beyond Winfrey’s multiple talent as an actress, producer, and businessperson, she understands the power of the bond with her customer base, a bond she has transformed into a brand. Dial Harpo Productions, Winfrey’s Chicago-based company, and Oprah herself provides the friendly, welcoming voice message that instructs callers through the options. And while other show business types remain hidden behind makeup and publicity agents, Winfrey turned her own lifelong weight problem into an ongoing theme on her show, thus creating widespread empathy among women who make up her target audience and simultaneously discovering new business opportunities in diet and fitness market.
EMPLOYEE – BOSS: The relationship between the boss and the employee is absolutely vital to success of every organization be it political, religious, social, business or educational. Conflict and ill feelings can ruin the greatest of all company. How the boss relates with his employee create a momentum that will a catalyst to its success. Richard Branson, chairman/chief executive officer of Virgin Atlantic Airways is known for his unorthodox way of doing things he is uncompromising in the issue of relationship he said in an article “if you don’t have a happy and highly motivated workforce, customer satisfaction goes out of the window. And if you don’t have satisfied customers you don’t have a business” and also added “satisfied employee and customer ultimately lead to happy shareholders”. Richard Branson pays more than lip service to his devotion to his employees. He gives out his home address to all employees and encourages correspondence about everything on their mind. On his desk every morning amid a mountain of mail, is a pile of letters from employees, which he reads first. He rides on the bus with them, invite more than a dozen exemplary rank-and-file employees with him to his private Caribbean resort to vacation and schmooze with the chairman. This is very rare in business circle, and may be difficult to practice in Nigeria, but the bottom line is that your employees are not machines; they need a level of empathy from you to be able to carry out their function effectively. Think of ways to add value to the life of you staff. Know them by their first name and show interest in their family issues. Through this you will develop loyal workforces, who will one day pay you back in their own little way. Do you have a profit sharing and health benefits plan enough to keep your employee from seeking work elsewhere? Do they feel appreciated when they perform exceptionally or they only see your face when you want to
